How to Prepare for a Case Study Interview

Common in consulting, product, and strategy roles — the process matters more than the exact answer.

  1. Think out loud — interviewers are evaluating your reasoning process, not just your final conclusion.
  2. Ask clarifying questions before diving in rather than assuming missing details.
  3. Structure your approach visibly (e.g., "I'll look at this from three angles...") so the interviewer can follow your logic.
  4. It's fine to say "I'd want more data on X to be confident here" — acknowledging uncertainty is more credible than false precision.
  5. Practice with a few real frameworks beforehand so you're not building structure from scratch under pressure.
