How to End a Meeting That's Running Long

Someone needs to name the time — it's rarely rude to be that person.

  1. Name the time directly: "We're at time — should we wrap up or extend by 10 minutes?"
  2. Summarize decisions made so far before ending, so the meeting isn't wasted.
  3. Push unresolved topics to a follow-up rather than letting the meeting run indefinitely.
  4. If you're not the organizer, it's still appropriate to raise the time check respectfully.
