Async Updates vs Meetings: When to Skip the Call

Not every update needs real-time discussion.

  1. If the goal is purely informational (a status update), a written update usually works better than a meeting.
  2. Meetings are better suited for genuine discussion, debate, or a decision requiring real-time back-and-forth.
  3. A good test: could this be resolved by one written message and a few async replies? If yes, skip the meeting.
  4. For distributed or remote teams across time zones, defaulting to async saves significant collective time.
