Should You Include a Resume Objective in 2026?

Related tool: AI Resume Builder

Short answer: almost never, with a couple of exceptions.

  1. A generic objective ("Seeking a challenging role where I can grow") wastes prime real estate and says nothing.
  2. A professional summary — 2-3 lines about who you are and what you deliver — replaces it for almost everyone.
  3. The exception: career changers or those with major gaps, where one line clarifying intent can help orient the reader before the work history.
  4. If you do include one, make it specific to the exact role and company, not reusable across applications.
