Resume Keywords: How to Match the Job Posting Without Keyword Stuffing

ATS matching matters, but a resume that reads like a keyword dump fails with the human reviewer.

  1. Pull 5-8 exact phrases from the job posting (not synonyms) and work them naturally into real bullet points.
  2. Prioritize keywords that appear in the first few lines of the posting — those tend to be the highest-priority requirements.
  3. Avoid a separate "keywords" block at the bottom in white text or tiny font — most modern ATS tools flag this and some recruiters manually check.
  4. If a keyword doesn't honestly apply to your experience, don't force it — a resume that doesn't survive the interview isn't a win.
