How to Ask for a LinkedIn Recommendation

Similar principles to a formal recommendation letter, but lighter weight.

1. Use LinkedIn's built-in request feature and add a personal note rather than the generic default text.
2. Suggest a specific project or strength you'd love them to mention, to make writing easier for them.
3. Ask people who've directly worked with you, not just senior contacts with limited direct interaction.
4. Offer to write one for them in return if appropriate — it's a normal professional exchange.
